Self-care on a Friday Night! You’ve reached home and kicked off your shoes. Maybe you’re cooking dinner tonight, or maybe it’s a night to order-out. As adults in the age of running around, extra work hours, kids’ sports, etc, it is difficult to truly wind down from a work week. Being a stay at home mom or dad, working two jobs, or anything you do throughout the day can leave some wear and tear to your soul.
Obviously, paying attention to your needs, your dreams, and your core values is important to evolve in life. It is not selfish to spend quality time on your growth and mental health. So, as you wind down for the day, it’s absolutely ok to take a few minutes to meditate, exercise, color in a coloring book, or even pour a glass of wine (or non-alcoholic wine) to sip.
Friday is associated with the planet Venus, love, harmony, beauty, family, and even fertility / creation. It is also the day of Norse Goddess Freya, goddess Venus, or Aphrodite. To start, keeping them in mind can aid in intentions of love, strength, and feminine power.
Here are five quick ways to integrate a little magical self-care into your Friday night evenings.
1. Sexy Snack Time

- Indulge in a little bit of self-care snacking for the evening. First, cut up some strawberries – associated with love, sexuality, and spirituality. For example, pair them with some gouda, sharp cheddar, or herbed goat’s cheese and crackers of any variety. Place them on a nice plate or board.
- Other fruit to use are grapes, figs, and apples.
- A drizzle of honey or use of jams has the same energy types.
- Pour a glass of your preferred beverage into a nice glass – one you don’t use every day. It can be wine, sparkling grape juice, or kombucha. Using a different glass will give you the sense that this is a special occasion.
- Then, raise the glass – a cheers to tiny or big accomplishments throughout the week is well-earned. Say this in your head or aloud.
- Cheers to me, to my soul, to my body. Cheers to my strength, to lessons I’ve learned and dreams that I seek. I am grateful for all that I have and all that I am. And I raise my glass, open to abundance of love and happiness.
- Finally, take a sip and a bite. Really try to slow down and taste everything. Reflect on how the food makes you feel. Think of one or two things about you that you find sexy. Is it your smile? Your instant knowledge of all things baking? Long legs? Humor? Let that sink in.
2. Emotion-Dump Journaling
- Firstly, drop the phone and pick up a pen. Writing is not archaic, despite the technologies available. Humans need some sort of relief from big and bad emotions. Bottling them up can lead to stress on stress on stress. Self-care can also include writing or drawing continuously with no focus on grammar or perfection.
- To make this even more magical, purchase a celestial-themed notebook. Make or buy a room / linen spray with lavender and spritz your paper with it. The calming effects of lavender will massage your mind as you let out words or drawings. Write without break for at least ten minutes. Then, close the notebook and don’t look back on it until at least the next day.
- In addition to this, personal space can be cleansed by burning incense, or setting a crystal nearby. Rose Quartz for self-love or Black Tourmaline for protection are ideal.
3. Speedy Beauty Charm with Rosewater Recipe
- First, obtain some Rose or Lavender water. You can purchase some or make it. Dab some on your wrists and behind your ears in front of a mirror. Look at your reflection and speak softly.
- I am beautiful inside and out. I heal myself and erase all doubts.
- To make rosewater:
- Add 2 cups of petals to a saucepan and add water just enough to cover them.
- Place on stovetop and turn on to low heat.
- Cover the pan and let sit for about 40 minutes, until the petals are faded.
- Shut the stove and let cool.
- Once cooled all the way, strain the water into a container, jar, or bottle and discard the petals.
- This can be used for up to one month.
4. Showering in Love
- Whether you shower at night or in the morning, this one is easy to do anytime, not just Friday nights. Yes, self-care can be in your bathroom routine as well.
- Bring a white candle in your bathroom. If not already scented, add a couple drops of Rosemary Oil or Dried Rosemary onto the wax. Light the candle.
- Turn on your shower and prepare as you normally would. Once the water is at your desired temperature, get into the shower. As you feel the water hitting your skin, imagine it is washing away all negativity from the day.
- Breathe in the air. Notice the scent of rosemary. It’s protecting your space, making this bathroom a temporary sanctuary. Allow the sensations to entrance you.
- Speak this to yourself aloud or in your head, and allow yourself to relax.
- All the negativity is quickly washing off of me. I glow from within, beautiful and free. I am embraced with love and harmony.
- Finally, take your shower, imagine the soap adding an extra layer of protection for the day ahead.
5. Dancing In the Kitchen
- It’s Friday night. Maybe your kids are starving, or maybe you are. Your brain is fried and you just want to make something quick and get it over with. (Or maybe it’s a take-out night.)
- Turn music on. Let the music take over and sway your hips as you cut the food or wait for delivery. Imagine the dancing is melting away negative energies, and the music is blanketing you in happiness.
- Dancing is known to assist in releasing sorrow, stress, and anger. Shimmy away those bad feelings and replace them with a more carefree attitude.
- For added energies, you can light a candle in the kitchen. A citrus candle such as lemon or orange brings more joy to the environment.
In conclusion, small victories are easily incorporated into the end of your week. Try one or all or mix and match. There will be more to come. Just remember to take time to breathe once in a while, even for a few minutes daily. Just a dash of self-love goes a long way.
