Traveling with Magic can seem difficult. Are you supposed to bring candles with you on vacation? Crystals? Tarot? The answer is to stay simple. Sure, you can bring a tarot deck, or even create a travel kit. But don’t forget what truly matters here – your energy and nature.
Chris and I recently traveled to The Finger Lakes in Upstate New York. I’d never been before, and one of our favorite wines has their winery located in Hammondsport. Bully Hill Vineyards was our top destination for our vacation, though we still found plenty of other amazing things to do and see.
Rolling Hills, Vibrant Skies

Between the rolling hills, farmland, and vibrant sky, I already felt as if I was on another planet. Not that we live in a bustling, chaotic city, but the break from chain-stores and traffic jams was much needed. Fresh air filled our lungs. The sights of waterfalls and wildlife reminded me just how precious life is. Bees buzzed around designated pollination spots by a trail, and a lucky snap led to quite the picture of a cute cow. We are so grateful to have filled our souls with all of it.
Chris and I ventured to the top most part of Taughannock Falls. I practiced a little grounding by touching the trees, leaves, and stopping to observe a few busy bumblebees. It was breathtaking to see. The distant sound of rushing water was all we heard. Everyone was pretty quiet. To be silent and hear nature working was quite a magical experience.
How to Travel With Magic
There are a lot of people out there who take fifteen outfits for a three day vacation. There are some that take one pair of jeans and two tops, a blazer, and meticulously plan the bare minimum. Whatever type of packing you lean towards, you should not think this way with magical practices.
Bring what makes sense to you.
Keep it simple.
I brought my tarot deck, a mini rose quartz crystal, and this little protection bag I keep in my purse. That’s it.
The protection bag had a bay leaf, a sprig of rosemary, and a few small black obsidian chips. The best part is, it was a breeze to make and smells great in my purse! I will definitely have to post on my socials pictures of it later. Follow me with the links at the end of the post.
Anyone going on vacation is doing so to enjoy life and cut away from day-to-day habits and work. If you don’t remember to bring anything, this is fine. Here are some quick witchy tips that will enhance your experience.
- Touch a tree. You knew this was coming, right? It’s really not a hippie thing to do. By resting your palm on the bark of a tree and really feeling it, you’re able to re-connect with the earth’s electrical field. This is similar to walking barefoot on grass or letting sand run through the spaces between your fingers. Any time you take a moment to connect with nature and block out the noise of everything else, your body can calm down and re-center.
- I’ve personally done this several times in my life when feeling overwhelmed. For me, nothing beat a calm breeze, silent in the middle of my childhood park, hands on the grass and sun blanketing me with warmth.
- Wish upon a star. This is something we’ve all done before, right? You look up and say the same rhyme about twinkle twinkle. Instead of that, try something different. Something new. If you’re able to be outside during your vacation, try to have a moment of quiet to stare up at the stars and imagine your wish coming true.
- Twinkling stars, from far away, on this night, hear the words I say. May my wish someday come true, and I’ll be forever grateful for you.
- Focus on your food’s ingredients.
- Going Italian? Do a quick search online for the correspondences of various herbs used in your pesto chicken and associate them with anything useful to you: Basil for an abundant trip to the gift store, garlic to protect you on the nature walk you’ve apprehensively planned for weeks despite your fear of very narrow wooden paths looking over waterfalls. (Can you tell I absolutely did this?)
- Did you know hops are for healing and sleep? Drink a beer if you have trouble sleeping anywhere but home. (Don’t go overboard, though. We aren’t talking about getting hammered, here! Hahaha.)
- Time to test the local curry? Curry powder’s blend of individual spices can be used for spirituality, creativity, love, clarity, and even sexuality. Maybe you save this for when you’re out with your significant other.
- Use the shower to your advantage. Use those free little bath extras they give out to your advantage. Sometimes they’re filled with essential oils and can be very relaxing. Use your bathing time to reflect on how far you’ve come in the year. Were there things at work that you could imagine washing off during this time away? Think of any negative energies and imagine those washing away with the water as well.
No matter where you go on a trip, even if it’s one city over, remember to pause and enjoy your time. If you can’t go on a vacation, maybe it’s just a day off at the local state forest. No matter what it is you do for time off, know that there can be magic in anything you do.
Thanks everyone for being patient with me! I’ve been super busy at work since we got back and have not been able to post. Good stuff coming soon. In the meantime, feel free to follow me as I mentioned before. I sometimes post silly little photos of food prep and witchy tips prior to posting.
As always, blessed be!
